JVA seeks to make a difference in the world by helping social innovators across sectors become more successful, scalable and sustainable.
The success of JVA, which was established in 1987, is driven by the passion and expertise of a team of professional staff. Janine Vanderburg, JVA's president and founder, launched JVA while she was at home with her newborn daughter. A former attorney, Janine leveraged her research skills to develop strategic arguments to support funding for her clients. Her successful proposals secured hundreds of thousands of dollars to support Denver metro nonprofit organizations. Grantwriting created an opportunity to work with organizations on a number of challenges and opportunities, from program development to long-term organizational sustainability. It also opened new doors to work with individuals and other institutions that were looking to make their communities a better place. Hence, JVA's team grew to include experts in organizational development, resource development, and fundraising and evaluation.
In 2001, the Colorado Compassion Initiative positioned JVA in the national arena to lead a comprehensive capacity building initiative that successfully demonstrated increases in organizational capacity and an average revenue increase of 25 percent in participating organizations. In September 2005, JVA opened an office on the western slope to better meet the needs of western Colorado's community. Today, JVA has staff in western and northern Colorado, and works with clients throughout the West and around the country.
As a company with both a financial and social bottom line, JVA launched a partnership with The National Center for Social Entpreneurs in 2007 to support nonprofit organizations as well as grantmakers, philanthropists and socially responsible businesses in advancing an entreprenuerial third sector. Today, JVA is recognized as the leading consulting firm focused on community and social change in the intermountain west and for 213years has tried to help make the world a better place.
