February has been a busy month at JVA Consulting. Here's what's going on:

• Welcome back to Nancy Zuercher, Research and Evaluation Project Manager, back from maternity leave. YEAH!

• Boomer Work: On February 12, we presented our recommendations for increasing civic engagement for Coloradans age 55 and over to the Governor's Commission on Community Service; these recommendations are being included in the state's plan. 

• Capacity Building:
  • JVA awarded capacity building assistance and $200,000 in financial grants to 34 organizations across the state through our Colorado Compassion Initiative. Linked to JVA's boomer work, these grants will be used to increase grantee capacity to engage older adults in work, service and learning.
  • The Junior League of Denver has engaged JVA to help with evaluation capacity building.

• Grantwriting: Yes, there still is money out there! And Metro Denver Partners, the Denver Scholarship Foundation and Denver Public Schools engaged JVA's expert grantwriting team to help secure funding for their important programs.

• Needs Assessments: The Early Childhood Council of Larimer County selected JVA to conduct a study of the projected demand and impact of early childhood education on Larimer County.

• Social Enterprise: The Telluride Foundation, the National Center for Social Entrepreneurs and JVA Consulting launched their partnership to develop social enterprises to stimulate economic recovery in areas of rural Colorado served by the foundation.

• Strategic Planning:
  • We continued working with the Second Wind Fund on strategic planning and technical assistance to help replicate their successful approach to preventing teen suicide across the United States.
  • Kerry, Ashley, Guadalupe and Jennifer will be working with the Longmont Council for the Arts, the Denver Public Schools Pupil Assistance Fund and the Colorado Multi-ethnic Cultural Consortium on strategic planning. 

• Search: Work Options for Women hired JVA Consulting to help with its search for a new executive director.

• Training:
  
  • Tri-County Health Department selected JVA to train its Healthy Aging grantees on how to ask for money, and Lorna will be providing a board training for the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts.
  • Our sixth Development Director Intensive took place on February 17–18, and the ever-popular Write a Grant in a Day © followed the next day.
